Installing new grips on your scooter is a straightforward process that can be done at home – even without the need for specialized equipment like an air compressor. Whether you're wanting to change your hand grips or simply customizing your scooter, this blog takes you through the easy steps to show you how to take off and put on scooter grips.

What you’ll need:

  • Hairspray or dry silicone spray
  • New handgrips

1.    Remove existing grips (skip this step if not applicable)

Starting with one side, pop out the bar end and roll back the end of the grip to expose the bar. Grab your hairspray (or dry silicone spray) and spray the underside of the grip and bar. Roll the hand grip back onto the bar. Using your hand, twist the grip to disperse the lubricant throughout. You should then be able to slide the grip off the bar as it works through.

Repeat this step to remove the handgrip on the other side.

2.    Prep bar for new grips

Start with one side first. Spray some hairspray / dry silicone spray onto the bar and inside the new grip. You don’t need to spray too much – less spray is better as it is quicker to dry after.

3.    Put on new grip

Continuing with the same side, slide on the grip and slowly twist until your desired placement is achieved.

Repeat Steps 2 & 3 for the other side.

4.    Allow time to set

Give the spray some time to set so that your new grips are secure.

5.    Install bar ends

Pop in the bar ends on each side. Ensure your bar ends are the correct size for your handgrips and bar.

You should now have professionally looking hand grips installed to your scooter!

Tips for a successful installation:

  • Add more spray: the hairspray/dry silicone spray acts as a lubricant. If you’re encountering any difficulties, simply add more spray to make so that the grips can slide off/on more easily.
  • Patience: take your time and try not to force the twisting motions. This is to avoid tearing the grips and/or damaging your handlebar.
  • Refer to our video: watch our video as a visual guide if you’re finding the process a bit tricky.
